Svetvincenat – Discover Medieval Istria by Private Chauffeur

Hidden in the green hills of central Istria, Svetvincenat is one of the peninsulas best-kept secrets – a medieval village centred on one of the most beautiful town squares in all of Croatia. Unchanged for centuries, its stone architecture, Renaissance loggia, and imposing Grimani-Morosini Castle create a scene of rare authenticity. IN MOTION arranges private transfers from your hotel in Pula, Rovinj, Medulin, or anywhere in Istria.

The Castle and the Square

The centrepiece of Svetvincenat is the Kastel Grimani, a well-preserved Renaissance castle that dates back to the 9th century, though the current structure was largely shaped by the Grimani and Morosini noble families during Venetian rule. The castle dominates the main square – a cobblestone piazza lined with a 16th-century loggia, a parish church, and stone houses that have stood for half a millennium. On warm evenings, locals gather here under the same sky that once watched witch trials, battles, and coronations.

History and Dark Legend

Svetvincenat history is as dramatic as its architecture. The town was the site of several famous witch trials during the Venetian period, and the Kastel has been besieged, surrendered, and recaptured more than once. Today it hosts concerts, theatre performances, and medieval festivals that bring the old stones back to life.

A Base for Inland Exploration

Svetvincenat sits at the crossroads of several of Istrias most rewarding routes. From here, Pazin is 20 minutes to the north, Rovinj is 30 minutes to the west, and the truffle-rich forests of the interior are within easy reach. IN MOTION can combine Svetvincenat with other inland stops for a full-day exploration of medieval Istria. Your World, In Motion.
